Unprecedented Success in Global Optoelectronic Market

The 22nd China International Optoelectronic Exposition – CIOE 2020 – was successfully held on September 9 – 11 as scheduled in Shenzhen, China. Amid the global pandemic, it was the most influential and successful optoelectronic exhibition in 2020. In 160,000 square meters of exhibition space at the Shenzhen World Exhibition & Convention Center, more than two thousand leading optoelectronic players showcased their latest cutting-edge products and advanced technologies. It attracted 89,294 visitors from all over the nation during the three days to source new products, look for new business partners, and to meet photonics peers. We can see the economic resurgence is returning from these unexpected numbers, and the global optoelectronic market is supposed to be the first one to recover.

The Covid-19 epidemic has intruded into people’s lives in 2020, and has had a great impact on the economy. Thanks to the Chinese government’s quick action on pandemic prevention and control, all walks of life have gradually resumed since March. Optoelectronic technologies have made a significant contribution to the resumption amid the pandemic, such as with 5G network construction, body temperature thermal imaging, AI service robotics for non-contact delivery, disinfecting and cleaning, camera surveillance systems, and virus detection.

Confronted with the hardship of the pandemic, the CIOE team see more opportunities than challenges, and still believe in the magic of face-to-face meeting. Thanks to all the effort that was made in the early preparation of the event, the CIOE 2020 actually came back live to the show floor. We also set up some exclusive display zones of the Optical Network Alliance, Intelligent Driving Sensors, and UV LED, which focused on those key emerging optoelectronic technologies. The German, Japanese, Danish, American and Canadian pavilions gathered leading optoelectronic enterprises together to showcase their advanced technologies, while the Lithuanian Pavilion made its debut at the show. More than seventy forums were held to present the hottest optoelectronic topics on the latest technology breakthroughs and future market trends.

The arrival of such a tremendous number of visitors brought confidence back for the optoelectronics industry. The high interest and focus on the latest optoelectronic technologies promises a bright future for photonics. Let’s look forward to the reopening of international travel soon!
