New CEO for Osram Opto Semiconductors

Osram has appointed Dieter May as new global chief executive officer for its Osram Opto Semiconductors business unit. Effective May 1, 2019, the 53-year-old will head the LED division of Osram, headquartered in Regensburg, Germany.

“With Dieter May, we have gained an internationally experienced manager with a strong customer focus and profound semiconductor expertise,” said Olaf Berlien, chief executive officer of Osram Licht.

Since 2014, May has built up the digital services and business models division of the BMW group as senior vice president. Prior to that, May worked for several years in Helsinki and Berlin as a member of Nokia’s mobile phone management team. May also held positions in the semiconductor industry at Infineon and Motorola Semiconductors and worked for IBM in Bordeaux.

He graduated in electrical engineering and microelectronics from the University of Erlangen in 1991. May succeeds Aldo Kamper, who was appointed CEO of Leoni last year. (Source: Osram)
