35 Years in Business – Yelo Celebrates in New Building

A leading manufacturer of photonic burn-in equipment this year celebrates its 35th year in business. With a customer base spanning USA, China and Thailand, UK based Yelo specializes in equipment that tests the reliability of laser diodes used in data centers, telecommunications and material processing.

Yelo purchased the 3.5 acre site in Trooperslane from Invest NI and constructed its purpose built facility in less than two years. Yelo was founded in 1983 by Richard Furey and Alan Watts and it now employs a team of forty, including electronic engineers, mechanical design engineers, software developers, and test / commissioning / support engineers.

The last twelve months have been the most significant in the company’s history with the opening of its new manufacturing facility in Northern Ireland. Managing Director of Yelo, Richard Furey, said, “We moved into our new factory in July of last year. It is a facility spreading over 25,000 square feet, which is a considerable increase from the 18,000 square feet we previously had. The wider space allows us to work on larger orders and manufacture more burn-in systems at the same time, more efficiently.”

On 28 November 2017, Yelo had officially opened its new 25,000 square foot, two million pound facility at Trooperslane Industrial Estate, Carrickfergus. Invest Northern Ireland offered Yelo over £243,000 towards the construction project.

Speaking at the official opening, Invest NI’s chief executive, Alastair Hamilton, said: “This new facility marks an exciting new chapter for Yelo that will facilitate the company’s continued growth in North America, Asia and Europe.”

The future looks bright for Yelo with plans to open a new office in Shanghai this year to better serve the Chinese photonics market. “We hope to see continued growth in 2018 and remain a leader in our field.” says Furey. (Source: Yelo)
