Preview: W3+ Fair 2018

2018 will see the W3+ Fair take place in Wetzlar for the fifth time. The specialist trade fair for the high-tech optics, electronics and mechanics sectors, is designed to be an efficient platform for networking modern technologies and initiating new projects and contacts. In 2017, more than three thousand visiting professionals met up with 185 companies and industry partners from ten different countries. The event’s status as a central meeting hub for cutting-edge sectors is due not least to the presence of numerous decision-makers.

Key players and numerous medium-sized companies have registered for 2018’s event such as Leica Microsystems, Zeiss Sport Optics, Pfeiffer Vakuum, Fraunhofer IPT, Dioptic, ITK, Optotech and many others. Visitors can also look forward to making contact with Brainport Industries, the medical technology network based in the Netherlands, as well as the optics hub of Jena and the surrounding area, who will be meeting visitors at their shared stand. EPIC, the European Photonics Industry Consortium, is the new Gold Partner to the fifth W3+ Fair. So it is clear that the event organizer Fleet Events from Hamburg has reinforced the road to international expansion. The consortium augments Wetzlar Network, founding partner of the event since 2014. Apart from Germany, exhibitors from Switzerland, the Netherlands, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Great Britain and Bulgaria have also signed up to attend. The US will also be represented.

The entry-free, high-grade fringe lecture program is one of the key elements of the W3+ Fair. Many exciting topics and speakers are lined up for 2018, including the innovative EPIC Tech Watch event to allow users and developers to exchange ideas and experiences on practical issues, and then there is the presentation to be delivered by the Czech-based ELI beamlines laser project. “The most powerful laser in the world” is extending an invitation to take part in the “project of the century”.

A practical slant is promised by the “IT Security and Industry 4.0” workshop. Numerous best-practice presentations are intended provide medium-sized firms with genuine support in securely handling the implementation of Industry 4.0. The event’s Campus Area is where the University of Applied Sciences Mittelhessen, the Justus Liebig University of Giessen, the Technology Campus Teisnach as well as the Jena University of Applied Sciences, will be presenting the latest findings produced by university research. Other presentations will focus on the new study program “Physics and technology for space applications” at the Justus Liebig University of Giessen as well as the newly endowed chair for “Optics and optical technologies”, which has been specifically brought to Wetzlar. Taking place on the second day, the Schoolchildren and Student’s Day is designed as a targeted recruiting event. Exhibitors and visitors met with over 180 potential new recruits at this year’s event.

Expert partners such as Spectaris, the Association of German Engineers (VDI Mittelhessen), SPIE, the VDE Association for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies, Hessenmetall, Measurement Valley, Design to Business and Upob offer a broad know-how foundation, and make W3+ Fair an innovative knowledge and contact exchange located right in the heart of Germany. The fair provides a suitable presentation space particularly to small and medium-sized firms, who can use it at a very moderate cost.

Project Director Jörg Brück recommends: “Companies operating in the optics, electronics and mechanics sectors should enter the date of the W3+ Fair into their diaries – whether they be exhibitors or visitors. This innovative event offers easy access to current knowledge, cross-sector exchanges of ideas and experiences, and there’s the new business too.” (Source: Fleet Events)
