Stefan Kaierle New Executive Director of the LZH

On April 16th, 2018, Dr. Stefan Kaierle has taken over the scientific and technical management of the Laser Zentrum Hannover, LZH, together with Dr. Dietmar Kracht. He succeeds Prof. Dr. Ludger Overmeyer, who takes over the chairmanship of the scientific directorate from Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Ertmer.

Dr. Kaierle studied electrical engineering and received his doctorate in mechanical engineering from the RWTH Aachen University. From 1998 to 2011, he headed the system technology department at the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT in Aachen. Since 2012, he has been head of the materials and processes department at the LZH.

The materials and processes department is now lead by Dr. Jörg Hermsdorf. He has been working at the LZH since 2001, most recently as head of both the machines and controls-, as well as of the surface technology group which has now been renamed additive manufacturing – metals.

As of April 1st, 2018, Prof. Dr. Detlev Ristau was appointed to LZH’s scientific directorate. His successor as head of the laser components department is Dr. Lars Jensen.

Since 1992, Ristau has been heading the laser components department at the LZH. In addition to his work on the scientific directorate, he will be responsible for the future development and orientation of the Hannover Institute of Technology (HITec) at the Leibniz University Hannover.

His successor as head of the laser components department, Dr. Lars Jensen, will also take over as of April 1st. Since 2005, he has been working at the LZH in this department. Since 2011, he has been head of the Characterization Group. In 2016, he became head of the coatings group. (Source: LZH)
