Sintavia Partners with Taiyo Nippon Sanso, Breaks Grounds

Sintavia, a leading Tier One metal additive manufacturer, and Taiyo Nippon Sanso Corporation (TNSC), a global provider of industrial gases and related welding solutions to precision industries, have formed a partnership to develop and promote metal additive manufacturing solutions across key industries. The partnership involves a technical collaboration to develop and commercialize gas flow processes that optimize the many benefits of metal additive manufacturing. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but include co-investment in Sintavia by TNSC.

“Gas flow dynamics are the single most important – and single most overlooked – aspect of successful quality AM builds,” said Brian Neff, Sintavia’s chairman and chief executive officer. “In TNSC, we are partnering with a true leader in industrial gas flow optimization. We look forward to jointly developing and marketing gas flow solutions that will benefit our mutual customers and result in superior builds.”The optimization of industrial gas for AM involves perfecting the chemistry, mix, and flow within the build chamber of each manufacturing run. Poorly flowed or poorly mixed gas can result in builds that lack proper mechanical properties, have unacceptable porosity, or a general lack of fusion. It is expected that the newly announced partnership will work with existing customers to promote optimized gas flow strategies that allow for successful end use builds.

Sintavia takes a further step towards growth with its new 55,000 square foot advanced manufacturing facility located in Hollywood, Florida. The 15 million dollar facility, expected to open in late 2018, is the first facility of its kind to employ lean manufacturing principles for large-scale metal additive manufacturing.

“Our new facility, when complete, will serve as template for future additive manufacturing facilities around the world,” said Brian Neff. “We will pioneer, and continuously improve, an optimized flow of work centered around Sintavia’s industry-leading and vertically aligned quality system. I am very excited to commence the start of the construction process, and grateful to our OEM customers who have necessitated this growth.”

The new facility is expected to result in 110 new jobs for skilled technicians and support personnel, and to house over $ 25 M of advanced manufacturing equipment. This equipment includes metal printers, hot isostatic presses, vacuum furnaces, a metallurgical and mechanical lab, post-processing equipment, and a CT scanner. (Source: Business Wire)
