March 15 & 16, 2016

Fraunhofer Institute for Physical Measurement Techniques IPM, Kaiserslautern, Germany

In March, the international terahertz community will convene for the seventh time for a workshop jointly organised by the VDI/VDE-GMA optical technologies department and the Fraunhofer IPM. With speakers from the US, Japan and Korea, among others, the latest developments in this area are presented not just from Europe, but all over the world. Sources, detectors and data preparation for visualisation of the measuring results are subject to ongoing development just as the measuring technology for the characterisation of the terahertz systems. Despite all the fundamental work that remains to be done, Terahertz technology is ready for practical use, be it in security applications or in materials analysis. The program and an application form can be found at the following link:.

Many terahertz technology experts will be in Kaiserslautern one day in advance, because the VDI/VDE-GMA expert committee FA 8.17 “Terahertz systems” will then be meeting for its eighth session after its founding in September 2013. The members will jointly develop terms and definitions, compile the (measuring) procedures of optics and wireless technology used in terahertz technology and specify comparable and reproducible parameters for Terahertz systems and components. This standardisation will facilitate communication within the community as well as with potential users of the technology. In the eighth session, the green-print of paper 1 of the guideline will be officially adopted.
