Ohler and Franz Take Over at 4D

July 4th saw a change in the senior management of 4D Ingenieursgesellschaft für Technische Dienstleistungen. Founders Dr. Jens Mommsen and Dr. Martin Stürmer handed over their reign to Hans Jörg Ohler and Christoph Franz. After 23 successful years of company development, the founders will move to the supervisory board.

4D develops, manufactures, and distributes systems for the observation and monitoring of laser processes as part of the quality assurance. With its core technology of photo-diode-based process monitoring, it has established a standard for the inline monitoring of laser welding and brazing. Due to its fast processing speed, 4D’s WeldWatcher system is particularly well suited for remote and scanner-based processes like in seat production, electromobility or electronics.

4D’s reference customers come from the automotive industry and include tier 1 suppliers such as Faurecia, Brose, Continental, to name a few. The company’s revenues come in almost equal shares from markets in Europe, North America, and China.

The company’s founders have carefully prepared this succession process. In 2014, they sold a majority of the company to DIH Beteiligungen (Deutsche Industrie Holding). DIH is an owner-managed investment company with a long-term strategy. Hans Jörg Ohler was introduced as CEO in 2016. He is an expert in high-volume manufacturing and previously worked with Thyssen-Krupp Tailored Blanks. Christoph Franz is an expert in process monitoring. Before joining 4D in 2018, he led a business unit for remote laser solutions at Scansonic.

Both founders have expressed their confidence in the new management and see the two new CEOs as the perfect choice in fostering the company’s further revenue growth while maintaining a very high level of innovation. As a first step on this path, the company will move into new premises by the end of the year. (Source: 4D)
