Jenoptik Laser: New Strategic Alignment

Jenoptik is adapting its business with lasers in Jena to new market requirements and today informed company employees about the business unit’s new strategic alignment and the associated adjustment to its product range. This process will take in outcomes acquired on lean project activities that aim to boost efficiency within the company. It will also mean adjustments to existing cost structures in all areas.

Alongside the new product focus, personnel adjustment will therefore also be required in the coming year. Fixed-term contracts at Jenoptik Laser GmbH will not be renewed or extended, and 38 full-time positions are due to be cut at the Jena site in Germany. In Germany as a whole, Jenoptik currently employs around 2,900 people in full-time positions at its various locations.

“We anticipate a protracted period of consolidation in the laser industry. The global market for lasers remains under considerable pressure. We cannot offset our decline in earnings in such a short timeframe with the measures currently in place to increase productivity and efficiency,” explains Managing Director Wolfgang Keller.

The business management will consult with the works council to ensure the planned personnel adjustments are effected in a socially acceptable manner. (Source: Jenoptik)
