The 3D lens printing photonics company Luxexcel recently announced a €7.5 million second round of financing led by the Flemish investment company PMV, including the firm’s existing investors, SET Ventures and Munich Venture Partners. Luxexcel headquartered in the Netherlands has invented the Printoptical Technology, a revolutionary and globally unique digital additive manufacturing process to create optical components like micro structures, freeform lenses, arrays, prisms, fresnel’s or other complex decorative designed optical surfaces. This innovative and patented “One-Step-Cad-to-Optic” process allows offering optical designers around the globe a new and unique 3D printing service.

The company has grown to a team of 25 employees and recently started to build an online ordering platform to provide worldwide accessibility of its service, providing optical designers with a rapid path to lens design, prototyping, testing, refinement, manufacturing and distribution of custom optical components within 10 working days.

Luxexcel effectively eliminates the massive inefficiencies present in the lens manufacturing and development processes and is able to produce lenses, directly out of the printer, without visible layering and post-processing. Today Luxexcel’s scalable technology has a main focus on optical components for architectural lighting, automotive, aerospace, photonics and medical industries. With the fast increasing printing capabilities, many more markets and products could benefit from Luxexcel’s Printoptical Technology. (Source: Photonics21)
