The Chairman of the Lux Photonics Consortium in Singapore, Prof. Tjin Swee Chuan, and Carlos Lee, Director General of the European Photonics Industry Consortium signed a collaboration agreement on 22 April 2016. The signature was witnessed by George Loh, Programmes Director at the National Research Foundation of Singapore’s Prime Minister’s Office.

EPIC and Lux Photonics Consortium are mutually motivated in cooperative activities involving technological and commercial advancement in the area of photonics. The partnership will encourage direct contact and cooperation between the consortiums and its members, exchange of information and contacts, be the platform for members of a consortium to reach the other’s relevant government representatives, public funding bodies as well as other entities in the region, co-host visits of delegates of each consortium’s commercial trade missions and business events.

EPIC is an industry association that promotes the sustainable development of organizations working in the field of photonics. Its members encompass the entire value chain from lighting, photovoltaic, photonics integrated circuits, optical components, lasers, sensors, imaging, displays, projectors, optic fiber and all other photonics related technologies. EPIC fosters a vibrant photonics ecosystem by maintaining a strong network and acting as a catalyst and facilitator for technological and commercial advancement. EPIC represents 250 companies across 28 countries.

Lux is an initiative set up at national level with support from the National Research Foundation, Singapore, with the vision of establishing as photonics academia and industry network in Asia Pacific region, bringing the academia and industry together for a common purpose of innovating new products or technologies that are enabled by photonics. With nine competitive research programs supported and 13 founding company members, Lux will serve as a platform to translate cutting-edge research in photonics into diverse applications underpinned by the value chain created in Singapore. The research expertise includes Fiber Technologies, III-V Optoelectronics and Biophotonics, Optical and Laser applications, Nanophotonics and Metamaterials, Lighting and Displays, etc. (Source: EPIC)
