Rofin’s wholly-owned subsidiaries Dilas Diodenlaser GmbH, Mainz, Germany, and m2k Laser, Freiburg, Germany, have merged effective January 1, 2016. Since m2k Laser has been mainly supplying their products to Dilas, this merger was a reasonable consequence and will further increase the efficiency of both entities. The combined unit will be headquartered in Mainz, Germany, and will operate under the  Dilas brand. The site in Freiburg will remain at this location and is being transformed into a business unit of Dilas, called Dilas Semiconductor.

With design and epitaxial service on diode laser chip level from Freiburg, and diode laser packaging, beam shaping, and systems technology from Mainz, the two sites provide complementary technologies, and the merger is a strategic and logical consequence of the long-term cooperation which both sites have since years. The combined company will create a competitive footing with our industry in expanding our portfolio of products and technologies.

Founded in 2001 by several member of the staff from the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Solid-state Physics IAF in Freiburg, Germany, m2k Laser was focused on the design, development and manufacturing of innovative high-power and high-brightness diode lasers. In 2007, it became part of Rofin-Sinar, which holds majority stake. In 2010, m2k Laser moved to a new headquarter in the Hermann-Mitsch-Str. 36 with extended office and lab space.

On the basis of more than fifteen years of experience in the field of diode lasers, we offer single emitters, laser bars and laser modules based on tapered, broad-area and ridge-waveguide designs. Our diode lasers in the near-infrared and mid-infrared wavelength regimes are being used globally in the fields of medical treatment, materials processing, spectroscopy and metrology.

Sales activities for all Dilas products will be combined. The now expanded product lines will be displayed at SPIE Photonics West in San Francisco at Dilas booth, #4737, North Hall. (Sources: Dilas / m2k laser)
