Andritz Acquires Majority in Powerlase Photonics

Powerlase Photonics announced that it has signed an agreement with Andritz that results in Andritz taking a majority stake. The new company name is then Andritz Powerlase, based in Crawley, UK.

“This agreement represents a major step forward for Powerlase,” said Young Kwon, Managing Director, Powerlase, “and enables us to pursue our ambitious growth plans to be a key provider of high-power lasers for surface preparation, polishing, cleaning, ablating, and many other industrial applications.”

Andritz is a globally leading supplier of plants, equipment, and services for hydro-power stations, the pulp and paper industry, the metalworking and steel industries, and for solid / liquid separation in the municipal and industrial sectors. The publicly listed technology group is headquartered in Graz, Austria, and has a staff of around 25,200 employees. Andritz operates over 250 sites in over 40 countries.

Powerlase Photonics will continue as an innovative laser company, focused on providing high pulse energy, nanosecond, diode-pumped solid-state lasers. With the ability to provide up to 3.2 kW, Q-switched systems, Powerlase Photonics is well equipped to meet the needs of most industrial applications.
